A recommendation of scuba diving in Japan. Introduction of Izu peninsula, A most famous diving area in Japan.

What is IZU hanto ?

Izu (or Izu hanto) is a big peninsula and a most famous diving area in Japan
which is connected to main island.

The big peninsula is a result of the dynamics of Philippine plate
so the peninsula has beautiful mountains as well.
The beautiful Mt Fuji is also the son of the plate.

Who?

It is popular to come to Izu diving spot for the the divers not only
who live in Tokyo and Yokohama area (it takes 2-3 h, by car)
but also even the divers in Nagoya (it takes 3-4 h, by car).

The time you need, of cause, depends on the way how you get there.

How to get there ??

Many divers use join tours of diving shop (one or two day)
or go directly to the service of the each diving site.

How  many diving sites?

Izu hanto is a big peninsula having many diving spots.
You need 5-6 h to go round the peninsula by car.
You can find over 10 diving site.

The most easy and most popular (it means calm) site is OSEZAKI which
locate at the west bottom of the peninsula and the most hard (it means
strong current) site is MIKOMOTO at the top of the peninsula.

The conditions of sea-strongly depending on the season and affected by "Kuroshio Current"-

The conditions of the sea is strongly depends on the seasons.
For example the temperature of this diving area range in 14 oC (lowest
in winter, february) and 30 oC (highest in summer, Augst)
It measns you need dry suit for diving in winter.

Transparency differ also largely (it's also depends on the seasons).
Typically, the summer has lower transparency like 5-10 m.
The winter, while the temperature is low, has transparency up to ca. 30 m.

These conditions are strongly affected by "Kuroshio Current".
(The bulue current wiht low nutrition)
Izu divers always waiting for the attac of the "Kuroshio Current"
because it bring the warm water, bulue water with higher transparency,
and many fishes.

The season and the attack of "Kuroshio Current" are the two keys for
the IZU diving
, which sametimes makes the diving at Izu more gambling.
